Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modernjazz

lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.

This style incorporates all your dance techniques with an emphasis on an expressive and free dance style.

We offer NZAMD Contemporary Examinations from Introductory to Level Six plus Solo Performance Diploma.

Choreographed by Ann Dewey, the NZAMD Contemporary syllabus has grown steadily as teachers recognize its value. It is especially popular in ballet studios, often called the ‘yoga for dancers’. Teaching students to understand the concepts of contemporary movement such as weight, flow, momentum, and the use of gravity, they continue to enjoy a sense of dance while focusing on freedom of movement and spatial awareness.

Introductory is aimed at students of about 8 to 10 years of age.

In Term 1 contemporary is offered as an extra class for pupils choosing to participate in this style in our production.

A fun open class, not as structured as exam classes. Teachers will use their knowledge and technique to create exciting and dynamic combinations to really push the students.  Contemporary can really be anything any form of movement, a good place to explore what your body is capable of.
